One-time Passcodes
A One-time Passcode (OTP) is a security feature which helps safeguard your TreasuryDirect account. As the name suggests, OTPs are single-use codes that we’ll email to you each time you log in to your account.
How to Use One-time Passcodes
Step 1: Enter Your Account Number on the Login Screen.
Go to www.TreasuryDirect.gov/login and enter your TreasuryDirect account number in the box provided. Click “Next.”
Step 2: Check your email for your One-time Passcode.
A one-time passcode will be sent to the email address you have on file with TreasuryDirect. OTPs should take no more than a few minutes to arrive. If your OTP does not arrive in that time, click the link for “Resend my one-time passcode.”
Step 3: Enter your OTP into the OTP Box on TreasuryDirect.gov.
You can manually type in your OTP, or, copy and paste the OTP into the box provided.
Note: OTPs are “case sensitive,” meaning uppercase and lowercase letters matter! Be sure to enter the OTP exactly as its shown in the email.
Step 4: Click “Submit” to proceed with the login process.
That’s the end of the OTP process. On the next screen, you’ll enter your TreasuryDirect account password to complete the login process.
What else should I know about OTPs?
• OTPs are 8 characters long
• OTPs may contain numbers, and uppercase and lowercase letters
• OTPs expire after 24 hours; after that time, you’ll need a new OTP
