TreasuryDirect is informing its customers that as of March 1st, 2026, customers are no longer able to select Certificates of Indebtedness (C of I) as a payment destination. Also, customers can no longer move funds from their bank accounts to C of I through BuyDirect.

If you are wondering why you were contacted, or if the e-mail is legitimate, here is more information:

• TreasuryDirect customers can no longer select C of I as their payment destination as of March 1st, 2026.
• Customers can no longer move funds from their bank account to C of I through BuyDirect.
• If C of I was already set as your payment destination, there is no impact.
• C of I that you currently hold is still available to cash out and use to purchase interest-bearing securities.
• If you received an e-mail from subscriptions@subscriptions.treas.gov about C of I, it is a valid e-mail (see e-mail below).

Dear TreasuryDirect Customer,

You are receiving this e-mail because you purchased Certificate(s) of Indebtedness (C of I) on TreasuryDirect in the past year. We want to remind you that as of March 1st, 2026, you can no longer select C of I as a new payment destination in TreasuryDirect or move funds from your bank account to C of I through BuyDirect.

If C of I was already set as your payment destination, there is no impact and your payments will continue to be directed there. Note that C of I is not interest-bearing, so we encourage you to redeem C of I to your bank account and use those funds to make more productive investments.
